What Is It? Six second billing is a method of “rounding up” a long distance call when it has ended. To understand six second billing, you must first understand what “minimum” call length is. Our long distance program has a 30-second minimum per call. This means that if you place a long distance call, and it is connected, you will be charged AT LEAST 30 seconds worth of a minute, which is one half (1/2) of what 1 minute would cost.
For example: if the rate of your call is 4.9 cents per minute, and you connected a call for 30 seconds or less, you would be charged 2.45* cents for that call.
Now that you understand how the “call minimum” works, you can now understand the idea of six second billing. If a call goes over this call minimum, then the call will be rounded up to the next “six second interval” (i.e. 36, 42, 48, etc.). So, for every six seconds that one spends on the call, they’ll be charged one tenth of what the per-minute rate is.
For example: if the rate of your call is 4.9 cents per minute, and you connected a call for 1 minute and 2 seconds, the call would be “rounded up to 1 minute and 6 seconds (66 seconds), and you would be charged 5.39* cents for that call.
On average, six second billing will save you an ADDITIONAL 15%, when comparing to “Full-Minute” billing.
*NOTE: Each call charge will be in FULL cents. Call charges will be rounded up to the next Full Cent.
